Neptune Size Grader

For herring, sardines and mackerel.

Size Grading is the first and fundamental operation in fish processing automation!

The Neptune Standard Size Grader is of all salt water resistant aluminum construction and each module features nominally 11 Anodized aluminum rollers, capable of being easily adjusted to give a gap from 10 to 51 millimeters. This allows the unit to be used for herring, sardines and mackerel. We have also used this equipment for live fish grading on local herring. All roller chain is stainless steel, driving through plastic or plated metal sprockets. All bearings for the rollers are self aligning plastic bushings suitable for wet operation.

Our standard is the basic 11 tube grader. We have achieved 12 to 15 tons per hour on Alaskan 300-600 gm fish on this unit. More fish can be put over the grader but accuracy will suffer as small fish ride on the backs of larger fish and do not even touch the rollers if the layer of fish is too thick. For larger fish, a move up to a 13-tube or even a 15-tube depending on the fish size may be necessary to achieve 20 tons per hour.

The basic grader is designed to be hung from three points. Power is electric, 110v single phase, with a Baldor variable speed washdown motor supplied as standard. Hydraulic motors are also a standard for us to supply. One Module is nominally 14 inches thick by 4 ft 6 inches wide by 10 ft long.

For multiple grades of fish, more than one unit will be necessary. For example, to grade fish to three sizes, two grading units will be required. Similarly, to grade fish to four sizes, three units will be necessary. We have sold many multiple-grading configurations. Better grade distinction and finer control of sizes within grades can be achieved with multiple units.

Multiple grader modules in series use deflectors between the modules rather than the prealignment slide.
